Counting days between two dates seems simple until you try to do it manually. The Gregorian calendar has months of 28, 29, 30, and 31 days — and that asymmetry compounds across years. A span that crosses February in a leap year is one day longer than the same span in a standard year. A "three month" deadline starting in January ends on April 30 (89 days), while the same deadline starting in May ends on August 31 (92 days).
This matters practically. Visa validity windows are counted in exact calendar days — overstaying by even one day can trigger fines or entry bans. Contract deadlines that use "30 days from signing" must land on the exact calendar date. Loan interest and lease expirations are calculated on absolute day counts, not approximate months.
